Diploma In Public Safety and Policing (QCF) (Level 3)

Summary:

The Diploma in Public Safety and Policing  is designed to prepare individuals who are interested in pursuing a challenging and rewarding career in the Police Service or the security industry. This national qualification has been developed in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary and the Skills for Justice.

The qualification and its associated units provide a pre-commencement qualification which can be taken prior to entry to the police service. The Diploma covers the core knowledge and understanding required of police officers, cutting down the time that new recruits will have to spend as a trainee once they have joined the police force.
This innovative model of pre-commencement training offers an alternative to the traditional approach which sees recruits undertaking all of their training after they have been accepted into the police. The key benefit for those taking the course, as well as for the Constabulary itself, is that graduates from the course will be able to progress more quickly to frontline duties after joining.

The qualification consists of 10 mandatory units, creating a 38 credit value Diploma

Progression:

The qualification can be used as pre-entry to the police force and will provide some of the knowledge and understanding of the Diploma in Policing which all new recruits to the constabulary must undertake. Successful completion of the course could also provide progression onto other academic courses such as the Foundation Degree in Public Services and Foundation Degree in Public Sector Management. The transferable skills gained from the course also mean that it provides invaluable training for those deciding to progress on to other roles within the police besides that of Police Constable, or wider community safety work, and for progression onto further educational courses.
